Many years ago Monsignor Rayner started helping a range of Catholic charitable good works throughout the Fiji Islands in the Archdiocese of Suva.
For many years, parishioners at St Catherine’s and their friends throughout Sutherland Shire and beyond have assisted the poor in Fiji by providing worthwhile items of clothing and light goods to be sent to Suva by sea. These goods have given dignity to many who are so poor. As of now, over 250 containers have left Gymea for Suva, a remarkable achievement.
The donated goods have supported a variety of charities and provided income to pay for things like tuition at the Suva Seminary and help for aged care homes. As parishioners are aware, special collections are also taken each Christmas and Easter and sent to Fiji, always with an amazing response.
Mons is very grateful to each one of you for these acts of Christian charity and he thanks the parish volunteers for their dedication to sort and pack every container.
However, Mons isn’t getting any younger and he prays that these charitable works will continue into the future. To that end, he is asking you to consider leaving a gift in your Will to continue this work.
Please consider a gift in your Will, no matter how small, to ensure that Gymea parish’s good works continue. You are encouraged to discuss with your family and seek advice from your solicitor. For any further enquiries, please contact the parish office.
