When fire descended on the heads of the Apostles during the Jewish feast of Pentecost, it would mark the beginning of a new world. No longer afraid, no longer unsure, these ordinary men were transformed, and would go out into the world as bold witnesses of Jesus Christ. Despite the fear of persecution, the twelve men chosen by Christ to build the Catholic Church would now have an incredibly powerful advocate to assist them in fulfilling their mission - the Holy Spirit.

And that same Spirit continues to breathe life into the Church today. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, we receive the very same Spirit that ignited the Apostles and we are strengthened, sealed, and sent; strengthened by grace, sealed with the gifts of the Spirit, and sent into the world to live courageously, love deeply, and witness faithfully.

In this video, we explore the original meaning of the biblical concept of “spirit” and what it means that God’s Spirit is personally present in all of creation. Ultimately, the Holy Spirit was revealed through Jesus and sent out into the lives of his followers to bring about the new creation.
